WORKING WITH THE ADOLESCENT DANCER
Interactive webinar aimed at dance teachers and those who support dancers, who want a basic introduction to the topic of growth and maturation and its implications or those who feel they would benefit from an update on their knowledge in this area.
1 hour webinar

- Reflection on own experiences
- Review of the biological basis for change
- Introduction to physiological and psychological development
- Implications for performance and health
- Discussion around of best practice for negotiating these changes.
- Follow up session on zoom for questions and discussion – 2 hours within 6 months of session.

INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT IN DANCE
Aimed at those who want an introduction to the topic of psychological development in the context of dance – exploring social, emotional and cognitive development from childhood to adolescence.
Half-day course (4hrs) via zoom or in person
Lecture-based with some discussion
Includes…
- Introduction to psychological development and important concepts such as autonomy
- Psychological development in childhood and adolescence – exploring key developmental tasks, attachment, emotional competence, social and cognitive development
- Discussion of how to work in developmentally appropriate ways with children in dance at different ages and stages of development
- Bringing it all together – physical and psychological development in the studio
- Follow up session on zoom for questions and discussion – 1 hour within 6 months of session.
- Run once a year through the adolescent dancer – please contact for times.

INTRODUCTION TO GROWTH AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT IN DANCE
Aimed at those who want an introduction to the topic of physiological development in the context of dance – exploring gross and fine motor skill development, fundamental movement skills, the growth spurt and more.
Half-day course (4hrs), via zoom or in person
Lecture-based with some discussion
Includes…
- Introduction to physiological development in childhood, fundamental movement skills, motor skill development
- Introduction to physiological development in adolescence – the growth spurt, implications for motor skills, balance and coordination
- Discussion of how to work in developmentally appropriate ways with children in dance at different ages and stages of development
- Bringing it all together – physical and psychological development in the studio
- Follow up session on zoom for questions and discussion – 1 hour within 6 months of session.

BOYS IN DANCE: NEGOTIATING ADOLESCENCE
Interactive webinar aimed at dance teachers and those who support dancers, who want a specific overview of adolescence in boys within the context of dance.
2 hour session
Includes…
- Reflection on own experiences
- Review the physical, social and emotional development of boys
- Consideration of changes within the context of dance training
- Explore challenges and how to best support boys in dance
- Follow up session on zoom for questions and discussion – 2 hours within 6 months of session.

ADVOCATE TRAINING: PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL MATURATION IN DANCE
Specially to prepare dance teachers to share learning with colleagues at their dance school. Pre-requisite – teachers must have completed an initial (bronze level) training course on the topic of growth and/or development. The course provides up to date knowledge on core areas in psychological and physical growth and development. The focus is on practical application and strategies and teachers are provided with resources to take away and share with their school.
Half-day course (4hrs), via zoom or in person, mix of lecture, discussion and interactive tasks, live or pre-recorded
- Advocate training happens once a year through the adolescent dancer consultancy and advocates must commit to yearly check-ins and 5-yearly CPD.
- Follow up session on zoom for questions and discussion – 1 hour within 6 months of session.
